Swami Paramananda (1884-1940), nació en una prestigiosa familia de Bangladesh, India. Tenía sólo 17 años cuando se unió a la segunda generación de monjes de la Orden Ramakrishna. Se encontró con su maestro espiritual, el bien conocido Swami Vivekananda, quien le dio votos monasticos, convirtiéndolo en el más joven de sus discípulos. Swami Paramananda fue enviado en trabajo misionero a Los Estados Unidos en 1906, cuando sólo contaba con 22 años de edad. Fue nombrado asistente de Swami Abedhananda, en el centro de New York. Su misión en los Estados Unidos se propagó rápidamente, fundando un centro en Boston en 1909 y luego en la Crescenta, California. Paramananda publicó la primera revista de Vedanta en occidente: "The Message of the East" y dio clases y conferencias en América y Europa durante 34 años hasta el día de su muerte en 1940. Swami Paramananda (1884-1940), was born from a prestigious family of Bangladesh, India. He joined the second generations of monk of the Ramakrishna Order when he was only 17 years old. He met Swami Vivekananda who became his spiritual teacher and gave him final vows. Swami Paramananda was sent in missionary work to America, for assist Swami Abhedananda at New York Center. Swami Paramananda's work soon expanded to Boston where he establised a center in 1909, later he founded the Ananda Ashrama in La Crescenta, California. The Swami started the first Vedanta periodical: "The Message of the East", which continued for more than 50 years. Paramananda following the steps of his father, a pioneer women educator, of India, also founded two educational centers in Kolkata, India that are still functioning. Swami Paramananda traveled all over America as well as to Europe giving spiritual practices,classes and lecturing until his passing in 1940. |
