M., Mahendra Nath Gupta (1854-1932), fue docente, director del colegio Vidyasagara de Calcuta, India. M. conoció a Ramakrishna en 1882, año en el que comenzó a escribir en su diario todas las conversaciones de Ramakrishna, describiendo lugares y personas presentes. En 1886, después del fallecimiento de Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda y otros hermanos monjes le pidieron que entregara al mundo el mensaje de Ramakrishna. About the author M., Mahendra Nath Gupta (1854-1932), was the headmaster of Vidyasagara's High School in Calcuta, India. M. met Ramakrishna in 1882 and recorded in his diary all the visits he paid to him. M. wrote in detail Ramakrishna's conversations and actions with descriptions on places and people. After Ramakrishna passed away in 1886, M. was prompted by Swami Vivekananda and others brothers monks to give Ramakrishna message to the public so he compiled his notes in 5 Volumes in Bengali, entitled Sri, Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita. M. started a condensed translation into English of his notes that later send to Swami Abedhananda in New York Vedanta Society, the first Vedanta Society in the world and the first publicaction centre of the Ramakrishna Order, founded by Swami Vivekananda. Swami Abhedananda edited M's translation into English and published in 1907 the first Gospel of Ramakrishna. Later, in 1942,Swami Nikhilananda, published The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, a more complete version translated from the original in Bengali by the Swami.
